There are few phenomena in the realm of athletics as captivating and inspiring as a two-sport star.
Caylee Kerr may be one of them.
Yes, she can hoop. Yes, she plays softball. Yes, she loves to play both.
Caylee trains and competes in softball and basketball. While softball is her first love, she’s just as good on the court as she is on the field.
“I like how quick and physical basketball is. I’m a power hitter in softball and that helps me to be strong on the basketball court,” says Kerr.
A power hitter is exactly what it sounds like. A player with a powerful swing who is capable of hitting the ball very far.
Did we mention that she hit her first home run in October?
There’s a difference between great and exciting. Caylee is a magical player, but hers is another kind of magic
The standard for girls in sports is shifting and Caylee is showing people how her athletic versatility is helping her excel in both sports.
The realization that Caylee is going to be a star athlete may not come as a surprise to her father, Jack Kerr, who’s been coaching her since she was four years old.
“I get to spend a lot of time with her because of coaching her,” said Kerr.
Having a kid on the roster can have pros and cons, but the Kerr family has found the good. Not only has it given them more father-daughter time to bond, but Caylee has also been picking up some of her father’s habits.
Says Caylee, “I watch my dad a lot and it helps me be a leader like him.”
On the floor, Caylee shows leadership by actively communicating on offense and defense, leading her team with a steadfast mind during adversity, and encouraging her teammates.
Whether she’s playing basketball or softball, Caylee knows that true confidence is about owning who you are and trusting your talent.
