After the games were delayed for almost a year because of the coronavirus pandemic, the energy in Tokyo has been epic.
I can’t help but think about the lyrics to Beyonce’s song, Run the World. Elaine Thompson-Herah is the fastest woman alive. So, while the lyrics “Who run the world? Girls” may be corny it’s relevant, to say the least.

Thompson broke Florence Joyner-Griffith’s 1988 Olympic record Saturday in Japan with a time of 10.61, dethroning Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as the fastest woman alive.

Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas smashed the world record on Sunday. Rojas earned a gold medal with a result of 15.67 meters, breaking a 26-year-old world record. She became the first woman Olympic champion in her country’s history. Roja won silver five years ago in Rio, this year she went for gold and a record.

Valarie Allman won the gold medal in women’s discus today, the first medal by an American woman in the event since 2008. She set the new U.S. record with a throw of 230-2 (70.15 meters). The previous record was 226-11 (69.17m) set by Gia Lewis-Smallwood.
