C’India Dennis scored 31 points, snagged 11 rebounds, and dished six assists on Friday night against Maynard Jackson, the defending 5A state champions.
Last season, Jackson defeated Creekside twice in the regular season. Still, the tables have turned in Creekside’s 58-38 victory over Jackson, their second conference win this season against the Lady Jaguars.
“After losing to them two times last year, we had to show them who we are,” said Dennis. “Our coach told us we don’t have any pressure; even though we have a target on our back, we know that we have put in the work to have this type of season.”
As a sophomore, Dennis is proving why age is just a number. While she may be young, she leads with wisdom and poise, creating the perfect balance of harmony for her team. Dennis plays with confidence and a certain level of calmness that helps her keep her composure even under pressure.
While the stat book may leave fans in awe, what truly stands out is her remarkable skill in getting her teammates involved. Dennis exemplifies selflessness in her playstyle, prioritizing her teammates over personal scoring. Her keen vision allows her to orchestrate offensive opportunities, weaving intricate passes and setting up plays that elevate the entire team’s performance.
“She’s one of those kids who, if she wanted to, could go and get 40 or 50 points a game, but these girls are her family, and she wants to put them on just as much. She’s learning to trust her teammates, locking in and understanding that great players improve everyone around them,” said Creekside’s head coach, Akennia Ellis.
The Lady Seminoles aren’t letting their perfect season get to their heads; they know there’s still a long way to go, so they’re taking it one game at a time.
Said Ellis, “Undefeated doesn’t mean you’re a champion. We’re taking it one game at a time until we get the job done.”
