RECAP: BOOKER T. WASHINGTON STUNG SAND SPRINGS IN FRIDAY’S WIN

As a team, Booker T. Washington did everything that they needed to do to win against Sand Springs Friday night. It was a team effort from start to finish.

The momentum shifted to Sand Springs near the end of the second quarter when Journey Armstead took a charge. The Lady Sandites trailed by three points at halftime.

Just when Sand Springs saw a glimpse of hope, Carrigan Hill smashed it. She was fun to watch Friday with her aggressiveness on the offensive end and tenacious defense. Her ability to attack the basket, get her teammates involved, and knock down the three-ball proved to be too much for Sand Springs to handle.

Hill hit a three late in the third quarter that gave Booker T. Washington the momentum going into the final quarter of the game. Hill finished with 15 points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Booker T. Washington held Sand Springs to six points in the third quarter. The Lady Hornets entered the fourth quarter with a 13 point lead.

Armstead knocked down two big three-pointers to bring the Sandites within 10 points with 1:42 minutes left in the game. But it wasn’t enough time and Sai Jonson wouldn’t go away.

Johnson proved to be a problem for Sand Springs early on with her tough defense and powerful postgame play. Johnson racked up 15 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Haylee Mitchell was also a key player in Friday night’s victory. Says Mitchell, “In the huddle, the coach said to be patient and play as a team.”

Mitchell had eight points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and one steal. She stepped-up when her team needed her.

Booker T. Washington defeated Sand Springs 52-40.
