IVY SPRATT: DETERMINED DEFENDER

IVY SPRATT isn’t your typical point guard. The 5’5 junior at Edmond Memorial High School is unlike many players. She believes in playing defense.  The saying often goes in basketball that “Defense wins championships,” and that is her mentality. Say’s Spratt, “Defense is the best part of my game. I put a lot of heart into it.”

If you ask her what it means to play like a girl, she’ll be quick to tell you that she doesn’t get offended by it because she knows how hard she plays and considers it a compliment.

“When people say “Play like a girl,” to me it means to play competitive and strong,” said Spratt. Her strength comes from her mother who is her greatest inspiration. Her mother pushes her to give everything her best effort.

Like her mother, basketball has also taught her many lessons. From the game, she’s learned how to be a leader, respect others, and stay humble no matter what life throws her way.

She fell in love with playing eight years ago. Since she started playing, basketball has been an escape for her whenever she’s going through something.

Says Spratt, “Basketball is my happy place. I’ve made a lot of friends, my teammates are like family.”
