Some players make their presence known by filling up the scoring column. Others leave their fingerprints all over a game long before the final buzzer sounds.
Gayvn Brent falls into the second category.
The rising junior at Grayson High School plays with a relentless motor that never seems to shut off. Long, quick, and constantly in motion, Brent has a knack for turning defense into disruption. Whether she’s closing out on shooters, attacking passing lanes, or sprinting end-to-end in transition, she’s the type of player who forces opponents to think twice before every possession.
Her game starts with one simple philosophy.
“My mindset and mentality in the game is defense first,” Brent said. “I use my speed as an advantage to hustle down the floor and get my opponents off track.”
Brent is part of a Grayson program that has become one of Georgia’s most consistent, reaching the state tournament three consecutive seasons. She knows that kind of success doesn’t happen by accident.
“It all starts in practice,” she said. “We hustle hard in practice and put in extra hours, so hopefully it will transfer to our upcoming season.”
It’s a simple answer, but one that reflects the culture she’s helping build. Championship expectations aren’t created when the lights come on; they’re earned through countless hours of preparation long before the season begins.
