CARRIGAN HILL : COMPETITIVE AND CONFIDENT

CARRIGAN HILL isn’t afraid to hoop against anyone. And no, she’s not arrogant just confident. When you work as hard as her you have every right to be confident.

Says Hill, “When I step on the floor everyone is equal. I can play with anybody.”

Basketball has helped her build her confidence. When she was younger she was a timid and shy girl. The more she played ball, the more she grew into the person and player that she is today.  Hooping has made her more outgoing. The first thing I notice when I meet her is that she has a glow about her. It’s a glow that’s lively and cheerful. A glow that makes you want to know more about her.

As a rising junior at Booker T. Washington High School playing point guard, she’s developed into a leader on and off the court. Her winning mindset separates her from other players. She’s the epitome of competitive and doesn’t take losing lightly. There’s a sense of urgency with her game, a level of gravity that’s hard to find in players.  Her work ethic is unwavering.

Growing up in a household as the only girl with older brothers who played ball it was only natural for her to become a hooper.

Says Hill, “All of my brothers played basketball and I wanted to be just like them. I fell in love with the game at a young age because I was always around it.”

As she inches closer to graduating from high school, she’s been thinking about what’s next. While she still has time, she’s the type of girl to map out her plans. And so far, whatever she puts her mind to she’s been able to accomplish it.

So, what’s on her vision board? Attending and playing for an HBCU. She aspires to play collegiate basketball at Praire View A&M University or Howard University. Many people are questioning if there is still a need for HBCU’s. And for everyone who is questioning that, she has an answer.

“With everything that’s going on in the world right now, I feel like there is an even higher need for historically black colleges. I want to continue to see my community thrive,” said Hill.

Basketball has taken her places that she never would have thought. We look forward to seeing basketball take her even further.
