In every classroom or office, there’s a hooper that has crumbled paper, transformed the trash can into a goal perfect for an alley-oop, layup, or jump shot.
That crumbled piece of paper is pretty much what happened to the basketball season. But this is bigger than basketball. This is about sports activism.
As the nation continues to face the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, players and coaches have come out in support of the Black Lives Matters movement taking a stand against racism and police brutality.
And then, there are players and coaches that haven’t said anything.
The silence of many basketball coaches is actually quite loud. The vast majority of basketball programs consist of rosters in which their players are African American. However, many African American athletes are speaking out because the colleges that recruited them haven’t issued any statements regarding the rising tension spreading nationwide.
With everything that is going on right now, particularly with the discrimination we want to make sure we do our part by using our platform for good and awareness.
If we can come together for sports, we can come together for justice.
